Browse database →A peptide is a short chain of amino acids joined by the same bonds that build proteins. The difference is mostly size and convention: chains up to roughly 50 amino acids are usually called peptides, longer ones proteins. The line is blurry — insulin, at 51 amino acids, is still called a peptide hormone.
Your body makes thousands of them. They act as hormones, immune signals, neurotransmitters, and more — often at vanishingly small concentrations. Research peptides are lab-made fragments studied for how they interact with these same biological pathways.
