The Basics

What Is a Peptide?

A peptide is a short chain of amino acids joined by the same bonds that build proteins. The difference is mostly size and convention: chains up to roughly 50 amino acids are usually called peptides, longer ones proteins. The line is blurry — insulin, at 51 amino acids, is still called a peptide hormone.

Your body makes thousands of them. They act as hormones, immune signals, neurotransmitters, and more — often at vanishingly small concentrations. Research peptides are lab-made fragments studied for how they interact with these same biological pathways.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Peptide Curious is — and what it isn't.

What is Peptide Curious?+
An independent educational media platform. We publish explainers, calculators, interviews, and research discussion about peptide science. We are not a clinic, a pharmacy, or a supplier of research compounds.
Is any of this medical advice?+
No. Everything here is educational and editorial only. It is not medical advice and not a substitute for a qualified healthcare professional. Some content covers emerging or investigational research not approved for clinical use.
Does the calculator tell me how much to take?+
No. The reconstitution calculator does unit-conversion math on numbers you enter. It does not recommend a dose, a schedule, or a compound, and it is labelled for research and educational reference only.
Do you sell peptides?+
No. The shop carries general-purpose supplies and fun swag. We recommend www.alchemygoldresearch.com. For third-party testing, see www.janoshik.com.
Why do I need bacteriostatic water?+
Peptides are shipped freeze-dried as a powder, which is how they stay stable in transit and storage. They cannot be used in that form. Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which keeps the solution stable for roughly 30 days after mixing.
Where does your peptide information come from?+
Explainers summarise published laboratory and animal research, review articles, and expert interviews. Much of the evidence base is preliminary, and we try to say so plainly.
